(REGISTRATION CLOSED)
A 6-weeks online group where you’re invited to explore your own attachment history though family and personal photos. You will use as a starting point your family album, from the old printed photos to the most recent digital images, to take a deeper look at the landscape of your childhood and the relational context of your earlier years. Using attachment theory as a framework, we will look for the deeper meaning of those images. Through guided exploration, reflection and experiential exercises, family photos will bring close to awareness relational patterns, family values and rules, emotional conflicts. It will help you build connection to current challenges or explore old patterns that may have roots in family dynamics, and create newer, more realistic versions of the past through engaging photo therapy and therapeutic photography techniques.
Who is this group for?
anyone looking for a deeper understanding of personal history through an attachment lens
anyone who has started a therapeutic journey and feels they might need other ways of accessing emotions and processing past wounds
artists who are developing work based on lived experience connected to family of origin
anyone with an interest in their own family photos
What to expect
Each meeting will focus on a theme, from mapping your own family tree with the help of family photos or important life events, to more specific themes as identifying a role one might have taken growing up or a perception of self which started to consolidate. We’ll look at how relationships are portrayed in those images, what is not being represented, who is not present in photos or what events have not been recorded. What is left out is as important as what has been included in a photograph. You’ll be invited though prompts to follow the visual and the emotional thread. Think of photos not just as a finished product but as a beginning that invites closer inspection.
Each participant will have the option to schedule an individual 30 minutes follow-up meeting as part of the participation to the group. The time can be used to wrap up the process starting during the 6 weeks or to receive feedback or further guidance.
